Thomas' Disney Program

Every year at J.R. Smith, the third grade puts on a Disney Program.  They work on the songs all year long and then come January (with lots of help from parent volunteers) they learn the dances and choreography to them.  It is a program that has been going for 23 years now at his school.  I taught one of the dances and was asked to work with all the children that had solos.  I feel free this week now that is is over.  Thomas had a great time and loved every minute of it.  Third grade is still at that age where they enjoy Disney.  This performance was out of Thomas' comfort zone, but it was so good for him.  He took it very seriously!

The sweet little girl who played Simba (Sammy) came over to my house every Thursday for nine weeks for singing lessons and we worked and worked in this solo.  All the other kids that had solos I pulled then out of class at the school.  Sammy was adorable and made such huge improvements in her singing and confidence.  She is a cute shy little thing.

Grandma Jones came to watch the program, Grandpa Jones was very sick.  Lydia adores her Grandma and I thought it was so sweet how she just laid on her lap.  They had a sweet relationship. Thomas was looking forward to this performance to show her.

So proud of Thomas.  They performed for different audiences 8 times that week.  Kids were bused in from different surrounding elementary schools as a field trip to watch it.  Grandma took us all out for ice cream afterwards, which now days is a big treat for the kids.

Aunt Kristen (my sister) came up for it. Thomas loved having her there also, he was so excited when I told him last minute that she was coming up. Keep in mind it wasn't even 24 hours after her trip to AZ that she came.   Thanks!

Hogle Zoo

It has been a very long time since I could take my kiddos to the Zoo. This winter has been extremely mild and we took the opportunity to go on a Saturday in January. NO SNOW! A warm 43 degrees. Kids loved it. I spent little money as my Dad and I caroled in our 1860's Dickens outfits this Christmas at the Hogle Zoo so we got four free tickets (he gave me his two free ones) and then we packed in our lunch. Such fantastic bonding time with them!

Pine Wood Derby, 2012

Mark once again did an amazing job with the boys and their Derby cars. William wanted his to look "cool" not so much win and Thomas wanted his to win and not care about looks. It ended up being the opposite for both of them. Williams car did great and placed 2nd on most races and Thomas'...well, he tried. His wheel had problems before the race started. Halfway through he race Thomas was running around the gym playing basketball, so he didn't really seem to care...which is good I guess.

My sweet little Boy Scout

I had the chance to be able to go to Day Boy Scout camp up Spanish Fork canyon with Thomas. I love this little man. He is a tender heart and any chance I get to spend alone time with any of my kids, I'll take it. He bought his first "real" pocket knife as he says at the end of the day. Dad told him he could and that was his big purchase he made. He is not aloud to open any of the knives except the nail file, but don't tell him, he thinks that is one of the many knives in his pocket knife. Keep him from cutting a finger off. I am waiting for him to want to widdle a stick and wonder why it won't work.
